Soccer!

Yesterday was the first official meeting of the local recreation department's soccer league. The kids divided up into groups according to age and kicked the ball around a bit. The object was to kick the ball a little ways around a cone and back. Lucy immediately grabbed the ball with her hands and took off running with it! She eventually got the hang of it when I explained to her that she wasn't allowed to use her hands when playing soccer. We still don't know what team Lucy will be on, but were told that one of the coaches would call to let us know.

Doctor Visit

Nurse Kay (photo taken by Miss Lucy):

Lucy with Dr. "Holly":

I am happy to report that Lucy didn't have any serious illnesses. She had a sinus infection, wheezing in her chest and an ear infection. Nothing a few Albuterol treatments and Omnicef can't take care of...

Oh Yeah...

Oh, and I almost forgot...I got one of these this weekend too:

Bring on classes! Life is good right about now.

Lazy Day...Wild Weekend

Thank God it's Sunday! This weekend was a little crazy to say the least. I took a job bartending for a birthday party on Friday night. Being out of my element (I am used to the bar setup at the VFW), it took a little while to get comfortable behind the bar at the Moose Lodge. The party was in full swing around 9:30 pm and I was busy, busy, busy. A huge thank you goes out to Janice P. who came up to lend me a hand! The air conditioning wasn't working properly, so everyone was really thirsty and sweaty after shaking it down on the dance floor. I saw lots of people I haven't seen since high school and made a fair amount of money.

I woke up relatively early yesterday morning (considering I didn't get in the bed until after 2 am the night before) and immediately switched my dial to housecleaning mode. I cleaned the house from top to bottom and took care of the stinky litter box (having two cats makes things a lot stinkier...little Cal is SMELLY!!). But I gained a sense of accomplishment and a nice smelling house is always a good thing!

Lucy came home on Saturday with a bad cold, complete with cough, sneezes and runny nose. The sitter had given her some Delsym for the cough, so my little girl was in the dextromethorphan haze all day. She took a long nap and went to bed early last night. I think a trip to the doctor is in store for us tomorrow, because she is really congested and it sounds like it's in her lungs. No fever as of yet, but I'm keeping a close watch on that for sure. I'm not feeling too good myself...I've had a bad sinus infection since Thursday evening. I'm trying to fight it off, but I think it's getting the best of me.

Not much at all on the agenda for today. I would like to get outside and wash the car and the outside of the house (darn spiders and their webs are everywhere this year!). We'll see what happens.

Little Cal and Tail Chasing

Here is a short video of the new kitty, Cal (it's a BOY!), chasing his tail:

He's still a wee bit skittish, especially around Lucy when she wants to love on him, but he is definitely making progress. He likes a little canned cat food mixed in with his Kitten Chow, and really, really, really likes to drink water. He is already litter box trained and no longer has "accidents." Little Cal even climbed up on the bed last night of his own accord and slept at my feet most of the night. He's my own personal little alarm clock every morning at 6 am when he gets hungry for breakfast, or when he hears Fisher at the door meowing for his breakfast!

What's Going On?

It has been an eventful week thus far.

It all began last Friday evening when Lucy and I (along with my good friend, Jeff) attended the Modern Skirts free concert on the square. This is one of the benefits of living in Elberton...two of the members of the band were born and raised here, so they show us some hometown love about once a year. The weather was awesome and the music was excellent, as always. You just gotta love those guys! Lucy was extremely tired, so we went home before the concert ended. Here are a few tracks for your listening pleasure:

Modern Skirts - Motorcade [mp3]

Modern Skirts - New York Song [mp3]

After sleeping until noon on Saturday, Lucy and I drove down to Nana's house and had dinner at Applebee's in Greenwood. Sunday wasn't so good...I had the worst headache I've ever had in my entire life and ended up sleeping on and off all day.

On Monday, Lucy registered to play soccer through the local recreation department. Teams will be picked on Tuesday, August 25th and games start the week of September 14th. Stay tuned for pictures and information. I'm officially a SOCCER MOM! Bring on the mini-van!!

Last night was my very first PTO meeting at Lucy's elementary school. I signed up to volunteer and am looking forward to being involved in every aspect of Lucy's education. The faculty and staff at her school are, in a word, AWESOME!

I am now officially registered for my first quarter back in school! I am registered for: Introduction to Microcomputers, Computer Concepts and College Algebra. All of my classes will be online, so I hope I can remained focused and committed to spending 10-15 hours per week with my studies. Wish me luck!

Thursday night brings bartending at the VFW, and on Friday I will be bartending for a birthday party at the local Moose Lodge. Extra money is a good thing right now.

Random Craziness from Mi Casa

Video Pick of the Day - Goldielocks

The city of Elberton could take some lessons from this songstress' lyrics:

Just sayin'.

Anyone Remember These Guys?

Does anyone remember these guys?

Well, they have a new album out called "Foot Of The Mountain." Here's a video of the title track from that album:

New Kitty

We acquired another kitten this week. I'm not sure if it is male or female yet (sometimes it's hard to tell), but the name will be either Callie (girl) or Cal (boy). The kitten is still a bit skittish, as it was part of a litter born outside near our neighbor's house. It is adjusting to indoor life well and no longer hides when it hears our voices. Lucy is learning to be quiet and gentle around the kitty, which is easier said than done when you are only 4 years old!

Lucy has been begging for a kitten, because Fisher has pretty much given in to a life spent outside. He's not big on being loved and petted anymore, and only comes inside to eat. So, I gave in. But little Callie/Cal sure is cute and loveable!

Excitement!

Excitement abounds! I will be getting advised today at 4 pm so that I can officially register for classes at Athens Tech next week. I am so very happy that everything worked out for me to go back to school for my degree. This time next year, I should be a certified Networking Specialist! Job offers welcome! LOL

Lucy is now on her third full day of public school and is adjusting well. We had a little trouble getting her out of bed this morning, but I can't complain because I hit the snooze button twice! I walked her into the school and stood at the doorway of her classroom. She wanted to be a bit clingy this morning and grabbed my leg, but Ms. Saxon (the para-pro) led her into the classroom and she went with her with no tears! Let's hope the rest of the day will be as peaceful.

The corporate "powers that be" will be visiting our office beginning tomorrow. They will be here until Thursday afternoon, so I will be in and out of meetings for the next three days. Fun times.

First Day Of School

I knew this day was coming, but I had no idea how it would make my heart hurt! My baby girl started public school this morning. She was very excited and jumped out of bed when the alarm clock went off. She even got herself dressed without much prompting (which I usually have to do every morning). We drove to the school, she put her backpack on and in we went. We saw a few people we knew along the way and Lucy was very happy to see her teacher, Ms. Macris, again. (Lucy fell in love with her at the orientation yesterday!) Lucy was very excited about getting to play in the centers today, and especially wants to learn in the Science Center. After a quick breakfast in the classroom (NutriGrain bar and chocolate milk), Lucy sat on the rug and watched me leave. No tears from that big girl! I haven't cried yet, but I think I'm still numb...it will probably hit me in a bit.

Excuses, Excuses

Haven't posted anything in a while. My excuse is that I've been busy trying to get everything together for me to attend Athens Tech fall quarter. Yes, folks, that's right! I will be registering for classes on August 12th and will begin in September (provided all of my financial aid comes through). The good news is that I qualify for the Pell Grant, which means I will be able to attend for free. That was a load off of my mind!

In other news, Lucy begins public school on Thursday. We will be attending her orientation on Wednesday evening from 3 until 6, where she will meet her teacher and tour her new school. She is very excited, although I am understandably a little anxious to say the least. Now all that's left is to shop for back to school clothes and shoes!
